What Formula can you identify?
The movie that I have chosen to use for my formula analysis is, Superman. In this movie, the formula that I can identify with is a hero saves the day movie. The movie staring Christopher Reeves as Clark Kent is a young man that wants to be normal like everyone else and be accepted in the in crowd. Clark is an alien orphan that sent to Earth to save when the planet Krypton destroyed. His adopted Earth parents raise Clark, and he turns out to have super powers and turns into a hero. The movie is a lesson in being a hero and just wanting to be normal. The movie inspires us to be a hero and do well.
What are the Commonalties in each column of the grid?
The movie shows up in everyone believes in a hero column. A hero saves the day and rides in on a white horse to shoot the bad guys. The other one is their belief that someone can have superpowers. Another, is can someone save us all from danger? In Superman, Clark is a shy boy turned hero only when he realizes he can do anything. Clark has superpowers that no one else posses.
How do formulas change over the years?
Movie formulas have changed since the start of making them. In the past, a movie was a big musical, over the top movies. Like Gone with the Wind, Cleopatra, Ben Hur, and many others. Now, movies are still big budget over the top monsters. In past times, movies did not have certain elements in them. Today, it is anything goes. The story lines are way over the top. It is said, “They don’t make movies like they use to!” This is very true and I myself would love to see movies like in past times.
Is the formula of yesterday still applicable in today’s society?
No, I don’t believe the same formula is used in today’s society. For one, movies are more involved with true life events. Not a fantasy or non fictional type movie. Movies like the Blind Side depict a true life event that actually happens to someone. Movies 100 years ago based on a fantasy of what could be in the future. There’s been a remake of movies, and the formulas have been changed to appeal to a different audience. There was a remake of Oceans eleven and it stared Hollywood actors depicting the actors of the past. Movies made in the past had a different formula then movies made today. It is not the same thing anymore.
If you could be the director of the movie, what changes would you make to the existing formula?
If I were a director on Superman, I would not change it. I would leave the formula as is. The movie Superman made Christopher Reeves a hero for generations to come. Reeves, is a hero to movie goers everywhere. He is associated with that movie and will always be.

Weekly Written Analysis 5 assignment 9-1

White House Party Crashers:Reality or Fame?
In this weeks analysis, I have chosen the recent advent that happen at the State Dinner. You see the Salahis, Michaela and Tareq somehow managed to get by the secret service and attend a State Dinner. They were not invited to the dinner as far as anyone can tell. How does this happen? This is a State dinner and security there should be really good. According to (M.Carson, para.6 P1)The intruders found their way through security as two wars, high unemployment and crushing debt are dimming the glow of transformational presidency. This does not make the president look very good. Why is that? Its not like he is responsible for this. The secret service should of taken care of this a little bit better than what they did. The public thinks the president is at fault.
I myself think this has to do with someone wanting their 15 minutes of fame. The Salahis were doing an audition for the Bravo's reality show, The Real Washington housewives. Fame in this country is something everyone wants and will do anything to achieve it. Look at the Gosslins,Octomom, and other wanna be famous people on reality TV.Your life is not private and if you can sell your story for a price. It can be bought for a piece of that thing called, FAME.
I think that this is part of a popular culture. Wanting your fame and being able to show people your interesting life on TV. People buy into something that they can experience. People put their private life right on TV and people can not look away. You can go through rehab, having a lot of kids, baking shows, cooking shows, finding love, losing love, and this list goes on and on. It is how all of us regular people get to be famous and on TV.

Hero's in America: Analyising what a hero is
In this weekly written analysis. I am wrting about what it takes to be a hero. Well, in certain terms a mythological or legendary figure often of devine desent endowed with great strength or ability. I think a hero is an unselfish person that would do anything without thinking of the risk. A hero does not need anyone or thing to praise this act of heroism. I watch CNN a lot. I get all my news updates by watching it. I like how they have CNN hero's. It is about top ten people that are considered to be hero's. There are people that help the homeless by providing free meals. There are people that help others get back on their feet. There are people that try to make a difference in someone's life.
I choose this because, one we have been talking about hero's as a assignment. I analysied the movie The Wizard of Oz. I thought Dorothy was the hero of the movie. Not only was she, but everyone from the Wizard,Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, The goodwitch of the North and all the munchlins were hero's as well. I think a hero is in everyone of us and anyone of us can make a difference in someone's life and it can even change it for the good of it.

Weekly written analysis 3, assignment 5-1
Paranormal Craziness; America Loves to Be ScaredFor my weekly written analysis, I have chosen to tell you all about a movie. The movie is, Paranormal Activity. This movie by Oren Peli is about a young couple that is being haunted by a demon. It has gotten great reviews and everyone in America is demanding it to be show in their city’s or towns. Why is this happen? Is it that Americans love to be scared? Or is there a belief in something that one can not see? I believe this represents popular culture. People like being scared and this low budget movie is an icon in its own right. It has grossed way over a million dollars in a short time. Robert Ebert as cited in Paramount (2009) called it a “an ingenious horror film. It’s so well made it’s truly scary.” This is why it is so popular to the public.
I have chosen this because I wanted to show how Paranormal Actively. It is a truly popular culture and this shows why America or anyone in general can want to see this low budget movie. They are willing to for over the $10.00 dollars to see it. I will be seeing it soon and I believe in Paranormal Activity will be put up there with other hot scary Halloween movies. Generations of people, will be enjoying this for a long, long time to come.

Weekly Written Analysis 2
For my written weekly analysis, I have chosen the reality TV star, Jon Gosselin. Jon is a popular culture icon at the moment. It is more like the most unpopular TV dad. The Gosselins have a Reality TV show, Called Jon and Kate Plus eight from TLC. It is a reality TV show based on their family. Jon and his wife Kate, Have eight children together. They have sextuplets that are 5 and a set of twins that are 9. The couple is in the middle of a divorce and TLC is shooting during all the turmoil. I for the life of me can not understand why Jon Gosselin is so popular. Is that the public that views this show finds them so fascinating? Reality TV started a few years back and it has become a staple for the viewing public. You can watch people fight and bicker on TV and just stay glued to it. I admit, I love to watch Jon and Kate plus Eight too. I think, that they are popular is because people love to watch real drama. It makes people forget their own problems and it is a form of escape of everyday life’s drama. I choose this because, I find that it is a fascinating subject and with millions of viewing public. It makes for fascinating TV.

Icon analysis 3-2. The Three Mary’s an Icon Painter
For my icon analysis, I have Chosen Impressionist artist Mary Cassatt. The three icon pictures I have chosen are Breakfast in Bed one of the main reasons I choose this painting is because I love how it shows a woman and child in bed. Mary Cassatt loved her family and most of her paintings are of women and children. Mary Cassatt did not any children of her own and was never married.
The second icon picture I chose was, Motherhood II again, Mary Cassatt interpretation of the love between mother and child was clearly showned. You when you look upon the painting. It shows a loving embrace of motherhood. Mary Cassatt was a bit of a rebel. She was the only woman painter among a bunch of rebel men painters. Mary Cassatt was a close friend of Degas and painted with him in France.
The third icon I have chosen is Mother And Child AKA The Oval Mirro Mary again shows a mirror image of a mother’s loving embrace. This icon and the others show a love for the relationship between mother and child’s. Ms. Cassatt painted the most intimated mother and child paintings. She was known for them and was very popular in the early 18th century.
The icons that I have chosen mean to me a sense of a mothers embrace of her children. Nothing is more beautiful and more loving than that. I think, that in today’s society most of the people have lost that. You hear more and more of family’s torn down than being lifted up. I think that Mary Cassatt had a sense of family and how the demographics of an 18th century life were a lot less trouble than that of family’s today.

Journal Article Analysis
My journal article analysis for the article I have chosen. The intended audience that it targets is women with special powers. The review by Jefferson (2009) has a tone of feminist to it. The review talks of characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and compares them to other shows that have the same content to it. In the article, the author says,” The contemporary seers differ from Cassandra in that they are multivalent characters, not satisfied with passivity of seeing but active due to their visions (Jefferson, 2008, para.2) this is how the author is comparing the characters too each other.
The third-wave feminism theory in the article. It is compared in the characters to each other. It gives an idea on how the author is thinking. It is can be used to everyday lifestyle, but Beelers application of it was found to be problematic in certain areas of the article. In the article Jefferson writes,” This application works well when Beeler shows that the lifestyle was a conscious choice, such as Cordelia’s choice to continue her visions despite becoming a demon.”(Jefferson, 2008 para. 6) this shows how the theory can be a problem.
I would summarize this analysis of the article. As a review to characters that have special powers in film or TV. The author’s use of his/her feminist view to characterize the article is apparent through out the article.
The style of the article is choppy. It is not neat and organized. It is all over the place. In the ideas that the author used is right on the money. Who would not want to read it? Women with special powers and can use them is kind of cool to watch and read about. The author’s ideas of how to compare the characters was really interesting to read.

I took away the key idea that has a very true feminist view to it. A character with special powers with a feminist theory is very interesting to learn about. The article title caught my eye. I believe in seers, witches, and special powers. Don’t you?
